Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana was quick to react to the racist chanting done by Enzo Fernandez and his Argentina teammates after their Copa America win.
Enzo Fernandez and his Argentina teammates chanted a derogatory song about the France national team in an Instagram live video after their 2024 Copa America win over Colombia.
The song contains some offensive lyrics, thus: “Listen, spread the word, they play in France, but they are all from Angola, they are going to run well, they like to sleep with trans people, their mum is Nigerian, their dad is Cameroonian, but on the passport it says: French.”
Wesley Fofana shared his disgust for the actions of his Chelsea teammate as he quote-tweeted the video.
“Football in 2024: uninhibited racism 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️,” he wrote in the caption.
The French Football Federation has already released a statement confirming their plan to take legal action against the Argentina national team.
Meanwhile, Enzo Fernandez has now apologised for his act.
He wrote on Instagram: “I want to apologise sincerely for a video posted on my channel during the national team celebrations.
“The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words.
“I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologise for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations.
“That video, that moment, those words, do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry.”
