Chelsea decided to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino at the end of last season.

Pochettino struggled in his first season at Chelsea, but the team picked up form towards the end of the campaign.

Chelsea owners decided to part ways with Pochettino, much to the surprise of many.

Chelsea star Cole Palmer has admitted the axing of Pochettino got to him, and is grateful for how the Argentine utilised him.

“He just gave me the opportunity and the freedom and said ‘do what you do’,” Cole Palmer told The Telegraph when asked about his relationship with former Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino.

“I was [sorry when Pochettino left], because he put his trust in me and we built a good relationship. Not just with him but with all his staff who were there. When he left I was gutted.

“He is probably the main reason [I am in the England squad] because a different manager might not have given me that freedom and opportunity to do what I did at Chelsea.”

Cole Palmer went on to score 22 goals and provide 11 assists in the league, and was undoubtedly Chelsea’s Player of the Season.
