Chelsea have now confirmed the signing of striker, Marc Guiu from Barcelona.
The club released a statement, thus: “Chelsea is pleased to announce the signing of striker Marc Guiu from FC Barcelona.
“The Spaniard has agreed a five-year deal with the Blues, which includes a further one-year option, and will join up with his new teammates for pre-season.”
To sign Marc Guiu, Chelsea met the teenager’s €6 million release clause.
Guiu, 18, made the move to Stamford Bridge after deciding to leave Barca, where he had one year left on his contract. Guiu rejected Barcelona’s offer to sign a new contract.
Other European clubs were also prepared to meet the value of Guiu’s contract release clause, but Guiu rejected a move, and chose only Chelsea.
Guiu was promised to be part of the first-team squad at Chelsea, which was a major factor behind his decision.
Guiu first joined Barca 11 years ago as a seven-year-old, and made his first team debut this past season.
He scored just 23 seconds into his debut to help Barca secure a 1-0 win against Athletic Club last October. He also netted in their Champions League defeat to Antwerp.
Welcome to Chelsea, Marc Guiu.
