England were nearly eliminated from the Euro 2024 tournament, as the Three Lions left it late against Slovakia.
England conceded in the first-half, and it took until 94 minutes for Gareth Southgate’s side to equalise, courtesy of Jude Bellingham. Harry Kane would score in extra time to seal the victory for England.
Cole Palmer was left again on the bench, as England lacked creativity for much of the game.
Gareth Southgate has insisted he prefers Bukayo Saka to start games, and for Palmer to come in and change games, and also believes Saka has more experience than the Chelsea star.
“Slightly different players, but both of them favour their left foot and coming in, rolling off the right wing,” Southgate said.
“Bukayo perhaps is more direct, more speed and more experienced, clearly.
“Cole is adapting well to, firstly, the Premier League this season and then life with us as well.
“So we are very happy with both players. Both have contributed really well and you want your changes to make a difference.
“In the last couple of games, I think our attacking changes have made a difference to how the team has played.”
Palmer has indeed made England look better whenever he comes on, but Gareth Southgate needs to do better.
