AC Milan have initiated a new round of negotiations with Chelsea in a bid to secure the signing of Romelu Lukaku, as reported by sources in Italy.

Chelsea, who loaned the 31-year-old Belgian forward to Roma last season, are looking to sell him permanently this summer despite acquiring him for £98 million in 2021. With Chelsea’s asking price set at £25 million, Milan and Napoli are leading the race to sign Lukaku ahead of the upcoming season.

Sky Sports Italy reports that Milan are acutely aware of the importance of timing in their pursuit of Lukaku. Napoli’s interest in the striker depends on the sale of their star player, Victor Osimhen, who is attracting attention from clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea. With Napoli needing to sell Osimhen first to fund a move for Lukaku, Milan have seized the opportunity to negotiate swiftly with Chelsea.

Lukaku is reportedly open to both potential moves, with Napoli presenting the appealing prospect of reuniting with his former Inter Milan head coach, Antonio Conte.

Despite being able to meet Chelsea’s £25 million asking price, Milan have some reservations about the valuation of Lukaku, who is currently on international duty with Belgium at the European Championship.

As Milan push forward with their discussions, the outcome could be influenced by Napoli’s ability to finalize the sale of Osimhen and free up the necessary funds. Meanwhile, Chelsea remain keen to offload Lukaku, marking a significant potential transfer in the summer window.
