Chelsea have confirmed the sale of Ian Maatsen to Aston Villa.

Chelsea wrote in an official statement: “Ian Maatsen has left Chelsea and completed a permanent transfer to Aston Villa.

“The Dutchman has made the switch to the Midlands and ends his six-year Chelsea stay, which culminated in a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund during the second half of last season.”

Aston Villa will pay a £37.5m fee for the Netherlands international.

Ian Maatsen, 22, spent six years at Stamford Bridge but made only 16 first-team appearances.
