Newcastle United have made it clear that they will do everything in their power to retain Alexander Isak, amid interest from Chelsea and Arsenal.
According to The Guardian, Chelsea would need to break their record transfer fee to secure the Swedish striker, with Newcastle demanding at least £115 million.
Chelsea have made an initial inquiry about the 24-year-old forward. However, there is considerable doubt at St James’ Park about Chelsea’s capability to meet such a high fee due to their ongoing issues with profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).
Newcastle are confident that Chelsea, despite their interest, will struggle to meet the financial requirements for Isak’s transfer.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe considers Isak a crucial part of his team’s future and has no real desire to sell him.
Isak has been a standout performer for Newcastle, scoring 35 goals in 67 appearances since his arrival from Real Sociedad for approximately £65 million two years ago. Last season, he finished as Newcastle’s top scorer with 25 goals, making him integral to their success.
Arsenal, who have a longstanding interest in Isak, have yet to make formal contact due to the high price tag. Newcastle are hoping to extend Isak’s contract this summer and are confident that the player is happy and settled in the north-east. His current deal expires in 2028.
In an interview with Sweden’s Fotbollskanalen, Isak expressed his contentment at Newcastle, stating, “I’ve just had the best season of my career. I’m really happy at Newcastle. I love everything about it; the club, the fans, and the city.
“My future is not something I will speculate on. I have no thoughts on leaving. There has been no talk about it at the club and I have received no information that the club would have to sell me.”
With Newcastle determined to keep their star forward and Isak himself showing no desire to leave, it appears any club wishing to secure his services will have to present an extraordinary offer to change the current stance.
