Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian.
Estevao Willian will join Chelsea in the summer of 2025, when he turns 18.
Willian is rated highly in Brazil, but it’s Chelsea who eventually won his signature.
According to the BBC, reports in Brazil suggest that Estevao Willian’s decision to choose Chelsea as the next step in his career has been questioned back home.
The deal has been questioned due to the confusing situation of Chelsea at the moment and their recent record with young Brazilians such as Andrey Santos, Deivid Washington and Angelo Gabriel. All three youngsters are still far from the Chelsea first team.
Estevao’s staff has told BBC Sport they have no concerns whatsoever about it and claimed they believe a transfer to Chelsea will give him a chance to break into the team more quickly compared to other big clubs.
The head of Palmeiras’ academy, Joao Paulo Sampaio, has spoken highly of Estevao Willian.
He told BBC Sport: “Estevao is the best player to have emerged from Brazilian football since Neymar. You watch him and you fall in love.”
He added: “I would say that with Estevao it’s not a matter of whether this place is easier or not because he’s the kind of player that just goes there and gets things done. When you are an extra-class like him, that’s how you do it.”
