Gary Neville was very critical of Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella ahead of Spain’s Euro 2024 opener against Croatia.

The Manchester United legend had said that he hasn’t been convinced by the Chelsea man.

Gary Neville even said that Spain won’t go far in the tournament because of Cucurella.

“We didn’t think he’d play,” he said in the ITV studio.

“He’s not been convincing at Chelsea, he’s played a few games towards the end of the season, he’s aggressive, he’s tenacious, he’s a busy little full-back.

“The Spanish defence, it’s got a lot of experience now but there’s something just missing from Spain that makes you feel like they’re going to go all the way. I have to say that him being at left-back is a good example of why we think that.”

Spain went on to beat Croatia 3-0, and Cucurella put in a fine shift as he played the entire 90 minutes.

Cucurella has again enjoyed another brilliant performance in the ongoing Euros, as Spain sealed a 1-0 win against holders, Italy.

Cucurella massively contributed in defence, and won the majority of his duels and delivered two key passes.

After a fine end-of-season form at Chelsea, Cucurella has taken such rich vein of form to his national team.
