Willy Caballero, a former Chelsea goalkeeper, is set to return to Stamford Bridge in a coaching capacity as part of Enzo Maresca’s staff.

This move follows Caballero’s tenure as assistant manager at Leicester City, where he joined Maresca, the current head coach, after previously working together at Southampton.

Willy Caballero, 41, has had a distinguished playing career, spanning over two decades, with notable stints at Manchester City and Chelsea.

At Chelsea, he was part of the squad from 2017 to 2021, contributing to their successes in the FA Cup, Europa League, and Champions League.

After retiring as a player, he moved into coaching, first joining Southampton in a non-playing role and later moving to Leicester City as Maresca’s assistant.

Caballero’s return to Chelsea is seen as a strategic move by the club to strengthen their coaching staff with experienced former players.

Enzo Maresca, known for his tactical acumen and previous role as an assistant coach at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, believes that Caballero’s firsthand experience and understanding of the club’s culture will be invaluable. This move is part of a broader effort by Chelsea to rebuild and enhance their technical team as they prepare for future challenges in both domestic and European competitions.

Caballero’s appointment is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and a fresh perspective to Chelsea’s coaching setup, contributing to the club’s ambitions of returning to the top of English and European football.
