Chelsea have entered the race for Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo by offering him a contract, joining several clubs in the pursuit of the 26-year-old, who is set to become a free agent next month, according to Daily Mail.

Despite Chelsea’s late push, Newcastle United remain the frontrunners to secure Adarabioyo’s signature.

Negotiations between Adarabioyo’s representatives and Newcastle have progressed well, bringing them close to an agreement. However, Chelsea’s formal contract offer has added a new twist to the transfer saga. Manchester United have also shown interest in the talented defender, indicating a highly competitive market for his services.

Adarabioyo, who made 22 appearances and scored twice for Fulham this season, has established himself as a reliable presence in the backline over his four-year stint with the West London club. His availability on a free transfer has attracted attention from top Premier League sides looking to bolster their defensive options.

Chelsea’s interest in Adarabioyo is partly driven by their desire to increase their homegrown player quota. Additionally, the defender represents excellent value given his contract status. The Blues are also monitoring Newcastle target James Trafford, Burnley’s promising young goalkeeper, as part of their strategy to strengthen the squad with homegrown talent.

However, Chelsea’s pursuit of Adarabioyo comes with the caveat of greater competition for a first-team place. The club is reportedly looking to offload Trevoh Chalobah for around £25 million, potentially making room for new defensive recruits.

Newcastle, despite Chelsea’s strong interest, remain optimistic about finalizing a deal with Adarabioyo. They are poised to push through an agreement and are currently awaiting the player’s final decision.
