Mauricio Pochettino has been axed from the Chelsea job, after just one season at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea announced on Tuesday evening that they had parted ways with Pochettino by mutual consent.
The decision has come as a surprise to many, as Mauricio Pochettino was beginning to get something out of the squad, and next season was expected to be better.
Pochettino had won his last five matches in a row, and the Chelsea team was beginning to look unstoppable.
But how did the Chelsea board and owners come to this decision?
The road to Pochettino’s departure began last Friday as Pochettino had dinner with Blues owner Todd Boehly.
Chelsea then beat Bournemouth 2-1 on Sunday to secure a sixth-place finish.
Pochettino had claimed all was well after the dinner, even as rumours of his sacking continued to swirl.
The following day after beating Bournemouth, Pochettino was called to the Cobham training ground for crunch talks, according to The Telegraph.
Sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart were there – while they also had a chat with co-owner Behdad Eghbali.
By the end of the meeting, a decision was said to have been made mutually on Pochettino’s future, as Pochettino handed in his notice the following morning.
What was the basis of it all? The reason for Pochettino’s departure was put down to issues “relating to the dynamics of working within a club structure”.
