Mauricio Pochettino was axed from the Chelsea job earlier today, after just one season at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino guided Chelsea to a sixth-place finish, after a horrible start to the campaign that saw Chelsea sit at mid-table for a large part of the season.

Chelsea announced on Tuesday evening that they had parted ways with Pochettino by mutual consent.

The club has now begun the search for a new manager ahead of next season.

The likes of ex-Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, have both been linked with the vacant job at Stamford Bridge.

Surprisingly, Thomas Tuchel is keen to return to Chelsea less than two years after leaving the club. Sky Sport Germany report that Tuchel is a ‘very concrete’ option for the job, and he feels he still has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge.

The 50-year-old who won the Champions League at Chelsea in 2021, was the first major casualty of Clearlake Capital’s ownership of Chelsea and was sacked on the 100th day of their reign, back in September 2022.

Thomas Tuchel had clashed with the new Chelsea owners following a disagreement over strategies on how the club should be run.

Tuchel who was appointed by Bayern Munich, leaves the Allianz Arena after one-and-a-half season as well, after a difficult campaign.

Bayern made a last-minute approach to convince Tuchel to stay, with his agent, Olaf Meinking, meeting with the club’s hierarchy last week. Tuchel turned down the offer, and claimed that no agreement was reached.

Tuchel said after his final game: “There were talks, but we didn’t reach an agreement, so the decision of February still stands.”

Tuchel has also been strongly linked with the Manchester United job should Erik ten Hag be sacked.
