The future of Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea manager is still yet to be sorted out.
The Blues boss is set to sit down with Chelsea chiefs for talks over his future, with reports claiming that the talks will hold later this week.
Pochettino’s position at Stamford Bridge is in the balance, despite overseeing a late-season surge in form to finish sixth and qualify for Europe.
So what does Pochettino and Chelsea board want? It seems to be a matter of control at the moment.
Mauricio Pochettino will seek assurances on Chelsea’s plans for next season when he meets with Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, as well as sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, to review the season.
Pochettino will want to hear detail on Chelsea’s transfer plans, especially if the Blues press on with plans to sell homegrown talents like Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah.
Two things Pochettino want is to keep a bulk of the playing squad, and also have a bit of control over who the club signs.
Previous signings were orchestrated by the Chelsea board, and it took Pochettino almost an entire season to figure out the squad.
Meanwhile, Chelsea owners plan to back their two sporting directors to spearhead the club’s recruitment and transfer strategy, with the Blues already active this summer in striking an initial £29.5million deal for Brazilian teen sensation Estevao Willian.
According to reports, Chelsea have sounded out Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna as potential managerial replacements, amid uncertainty on Pochettino’s future.
Which way do you think Chelsea should go?
Wow????!! Our club is burdened with the sacking of coaches which at times we some fans have already experienced that the sacking of a coach will not change the clubs performance alone as long as there’s lack of player quality in the squad. Mark my words surely, even the next appointed manager would struggle to win the league just in the his first season. And in addition to this, I’m so shocked with what this club has turned to especially by failing to keep very Best performed players who can bring us Joy and those forgotten glories. I mean the sell of Connor Gallagher whom we see as the Best performed midfield player currently we have at the club. My question is that what kind of players is this club will have as Best and world class players apart from one of those who were mistakenly sold and allowed to leave on free transfers? ????, so shocking
