When Todd Boehly took over ownership from Roman Abramovich, they made a lot of changes at Chelsea, including sacking of then manager Thomas Tuchel.

The new owners also changed the playing squad over two summer transfer windows, and a huge number of the old squad left last summer, with younger players coming in.

Of all the players sold by Chelsea, William Gallas has now claimed that Mateo Kovacic shouldn’t have been sold.

The new Chelsea owners decided to let go of Kovacic after signing Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. Mateo Kovacic is now set to win the league with Manchester City.

William Gallas believes the experience of Kovacic would have helped the incoming young midfielders.

Gallas told Genting Casino: “For Mateo Kovacic, bringing in Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez was always going to push him out the door.

“But those sort of young midfielders need experience alongside them and Kovacic would have provided this, so maybe that was a mistake to let him go as well.

‌”Maybe he should have stayed for another season, around the young players to help them improve. It was the right move for him, but not for Chelsea.”
