Sergio Aguero burst onto the scene in the late 2000s, and was a hot property in the transfer market.

Chelsea were linked with the Argentine, but he ended up moving to Manchester City where he went on to become a legend.

Sergio Aguero has revealed how Frank Lampard pushed the Chelsea board to sign him in 2010, 18 months before he joined Manchester City in 2011 for a fee of £35million.

A young Aguero started on the bench away at the Wanda Metropolitano when Chelsea met Atletico in the Champions League group stage back in November 2009

Didier Drogba looked to have won it for Chelsea with a quickfire brace before Aguero curled in a late 25-yard free-kick to deny the visitors victory in that game.

Asked whether Chelsea ever had a chance of signing him following that 2-2 draw in Madrid, Sergio Aguero told The Club YouTube channel: “Yeah, yeah, yeah!

“After that game, maybe two months after, my agent said to me, ‘Chelsea are interested’.

“I had just three years at Atletico Madrid. I mean, I loved the Premier League, to play there, but Chelsea were never interested after. At first, yes, but then my agent said: ‘Okay, maybe not’.”

After swapping Chelsea for City in 2014, Lampard told Aguero how he had pestered the decision-makers at Stamford Bridge to sign him in early 2010.

“I spoke about that with Frank Lampard because Frank Lampard played at Manchester City,” Aguero added.

“He said when I played against him, he told the staff at Chelsea to sign Aguero.”
