It has been a difficult season for Chelsea, but the Blues were brilliant against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening.
Goals from Trevoh Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson sealed a 2-0 victory for Chelsea.
The victory was all the more impressive given that Chelsea had 14 senior players ruled out through injury.
There was pressure on the team ahead of this game, but the players took on their responsibilities wholeheartedly.
One of such players worthy of praise is Noni Madueke. The 22-year-old has grown in strength in recent weeks, and has become a key player for Mauricio Pochettino.
Aside his attacking threat, Mauricio Pochettino was happy that Madueke was involved defensively.
Madueke did well to help Alfie Gilchrist at right-back, and put in more efforts to help an even younger Josh Acheampong, when he replaced the injured Gilchrist.
At full-time, Mauricio Pochettino rushed onto the pitch, and was seen giving multiple kisses on the cheeks to Madueke.
“Noni Madueke today was unbelievable,” said Pochettino after the game.
“If you analyse him at the start of the season – before all the conversations and meetings, the clips and videos, things like this – he was always, like today, capable of doing a fantastic job with the ball.
“Of course, he is an offensive player but without the ball he is doing a fantastic job to help Alfie [Gilchrist] defend. That is what we need for the future, to build this competitive spirit.”
