Mauricio Pochettino had a depleted squad to play Arsenal on Tuesday night.

Despite the depleted squad, the Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino made some questionable decisions.

Pochettino decided to bench the experienced Thiago Silva and also Trevoh Chalobah who has been in good form since returning from injury.

Pochettino decided to start Benoit Badiashile against Arsenal, and the Frenchman had a very difficult game.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Pochettino defended his decision to bench Thiago Silva against Arsenal, as he stated: “I need to explain that [Trevoh] Chalobah didn’t play at the start of the season and Silva, a 39-year-old, needs a rest, also.

“We needed to provide the team with energy. Reece [James] and Malo [Gusto] were not available. We used [Mykhailo] Mudryk for [Cole] Palmer and I think the circumstances to make a decision and make some changes.

“But I think the most difficult thing is to accept the way we were starting the game. In the last 30 minutes of the first-half, we competed well and the game was even.

“In the second-half, the way we started, I think in this moment started to suffer a lot and struggled too much in the game.”
