Mauricio Pochettino had a depleted squad to play against Arsenal on Tuesday night, but the Chelsea boss made a mess of his line-up for this game.
Pochettino decided to start Benoit Badiashile who has had a poor season ahead of Thiago Silva and even Trevoh Chalobah who has been reliable since returning from injury.
Benoit Badiashile didn’t prove doubters wrong as he was Chelsea’s worst player at the Emirates Stadium. He looked scared and uncomfortable almost all through the game until he was eventually subbed off late on, when the deed has been done.
The Blues boss decided to bench the experienced Thiago Silva and also Trevoh Chalobah who has been in good form since returning from injury, and Chelsea fans already knew that the game was lost at this point.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Pochettino defended his decision to bench Silva against Arsenal, as he stated: “I need to explain that [Trevoh] Chalobah didn’t play at the start of the season and Silva, a 39-year-old, needs a rest, also.
“We needed to provide the team with energy. Reece [James] and Malo [Gusto] were not available. We used [Mykhailo] Mudryk for [Cole] Palmer and I think the circumstances to make a decision and make some changes.
“But I think the most difficult thing is to accept the way we were starting the game. In the last 30 minutes of the first-half, we competed well and the game was even.
“In the second-half, the way we started, I think in this moment started to suffer a lot and struggled too much in the game.”
