He was asking for what I couldn’t give – Pep Guardiola gives latest update on Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer left Manchester City to sign for Chelsea last summer, as the Blues paid £42.5million for his signing.

It looked a ridiculous deal at first, but Palmer has turned out to be the signing of the season.

The 21-year-old has gone on to score 20 Premier League goals for Chelsea in his first season at Stamford Bridge, and is level with Erling Haaland so far.

Cole Palmer had often stated that he was open to staying at Manchester City, and only wanted to leave on loan at first, but Pep Guardiola didn’t really want him to leave on loan.

Ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has now spoken about Palmer, who scored four goals against Everton on Monday.

“He was asking for two seasons to leave Man City. I said: stay. He wanted to leave. What can we do?,” he said.

“He’s an exceptional player with super potential. I didn’t give him the minutes he deserves that he now has at Chelsea.”
