Ian Maatsen scored his first-ever Champions League goal as Dortmund reached the semi-finals with a 4-2 second-leg win over Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

Ian Maatsen left Chelsea for Borussia Dortmund on loan in January, and the Bundesliga club are keen to keep him permanently.

Chelsea fans have asked for the Blues academy product to return to Stamford Bridge.

“Ian Maatsen what a goal. Don’t sell him @ChelseaFC,” @CFCDatro posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Chelsea are going to sell Ian Maatsen to Borussia Dortmund for £35m when we’re crying out for a player like him,” @UberChelseaFC_ added.

“Maatsen is into the semi finals as a starting LB in the competition we can’t get into,” @matissearmani said. “Talent always talks.”

“Ian Maatsen wasn’t given a chance by Chelsea this season and now he is scoring CL quarter final goals,” @ConnCFC posted. “Fair play to him, talented player.”

@Celery_brigade, meanwhile teased: “That Ian Maatsen fella looks good – we should consider buying him.”

Ian Maatsen hardly played under Mauricio Pochettino, despite impressing on loan last season with Burnley.

Ian Maatsen has now revealed that he had always believed he was good enough to play for Chelsea.

“No, I was surprised. I think I always believed [I could] play for Chelsea as well, but unfortunately for some reasons it didn’t work out how it should’ve,” Maatsen told CBS Sports.

“Now I’m here I’m very grateful for the opportunity. I can say I’m very proud of myself.

“I kept believing in myself and came here to experience playing my game at the highest level, playing my game. Today I think I showed a very good performance. I’m very happy.”
