Pochettino: This talented Chelsea player isn’t playing because of Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer has by far been Chelsea’s best player this season.

The 21-year-old summer signing from Manchester City is the first name on the starting sheet for Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues boss often plays Palmer out wide on the right, where he drifts into midfield and other attacking positions to help create chances for his teammates.

One player who has barely played but we can’t deny his talent is Noni Madueke.

Chelsea spent £30m to sign Madueke from PSV in January 2023, and he has garnered seven goals and one assist across 37 games to date.

Pochettino has admitted that Cole Palmer is the one taking the place of Noni Madueke.

Cole Palmer has scored 19 goals and registered 13 assists in 37 games for Chelsea this season – a far better stat than what we’ve seen from Noni Madueke.

Quizzed about Madueke’s potential, Pochettino told the media on Friday: “First of all it’s about to have the space for him.

“Because when the club signed Cole Palmer, he (Madueke) was also here at the club and they’re in the same position.

“It’s all about adaptation and trying to find the dynamic where him and Palmer can play together.

“Hopefully he can be consistent playing in the starting XI and show his quality. But always it’s about to find the right balance in the team.”
