Chelsea legend Joe Cole has stated that a star from Manchester City surpasses the greatness of Premier League legends Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, and Steven Gerrard.
Following City’s 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, which enhanced their prospects for clinching the Premier League title, Joe Cole praised the outstanding performance of one player in particular.
According to the ex-Chelsea midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne stands above the rest, including Lampard, Scholes, and Gerrard.
De Bruyne played a pivotal role in the win, scoring two goals, one of which was an exceptional equalizer, contributing significantly to City’s triumph.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Cole said: “I think he sits above everyone. I really do. And I include Frank, and Scholesy and Stevie and everyone.
“I think he’s I think he’s moving up and they are great players of their time and it’s always difficult to compare eras because the game the rules change the pitch has changed the ball has changed, the training methods, everything changes, but he’s certainly the best of this era and he’s just outstanding.”
Commenting on De Bruyne’s first goal against Palace, Cole described the strike as ‘beautiful’. He also described the 32-year-old as the godfather of attacking midfielders.
Joe Cole said: “The quality it takes to hit it coming across with your weak foot coming across, and he has a little stride in it and slows himself down. The decision and then just the straight leg just to put it in like that, that just sort of a tad of violence there.
“It’s beautiful. I mean, he is the godfather of attacking midfielders in world football I still think he’s the best at the bunch.”
