Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has claimed Chelsea’s 4-3 victory over Manchester United is difficult to take because Manchester United had the game in their hands.
Fernandes is disgruntled by United’s defensive fragility and particularly rues the fact that the team knew about Chelsea’s tendency to take quick corners but were unable to stop the winning goal.
Chelsea sailed to a two-goal lead inside the first 19 minutes thanks to goals from Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer.
Manchester United equalised in the space of 5 first-half minutes through goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes.
Garnacho then gave Manchester United the lead in the 60th minute but Cole Palmer scored two late in goals to secure a 4-3 victory for Chelsea.
United conceded a whopping 28 shots during the game, having shipped more than 100 efforts on their goal in the previous four matches combined.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Bruno Fernandes said: “We had the game in our hands and we gave it away. It’s frustrating. It’s difficult to take.
“We had good control in the last few minutes. But they got two chances and scored two goals. From the corner we have to be much quicker. We knew beforehand they take corners and throw-ins quickly.”
Bruno Fernandes added: “In the last games we’ve conceded too many shots. It’s about defending your box.”
