Cole Palmer was one of three Chelsea players who got called up by Gareth Southgate for England’s last games before the end of the season.

Conor Gallagher and Ben Chilwell featured for the Three Lions, but Palmer didn’t get a minute of action in friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Palmer who has 11 goals and eight assists in the Premier League this season, was on the bench for the game against Belgium.

Explaining why he benched Cole Palmer, Gareth Southgate said: “I said when I named the squad there is competition for places in those wide areas.

“It’s a bit of a shame that Cole Palmer missed so much training that we weren’t able to put him into the game [against Belgium] at the stage it was, having missed most of the week.

“We weren’t 100 per cent certain what we would get whereas with Gordon we knew and [James] Maddison we knew. I wouldn’t rule Cole out of that equation.”

Cole Palmer missed the game against Brazil due to an injury scare, but was available to play Belgium.

It’s yet to be seen whether Palmer will make the final England squad for the Euros.
