Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has made a bold comparison between Nicolas Jackson and Didier Drogba.
Drogba is a top legend at the club, and made his name scoring goals and winning finals for Chelsea.
Drogba was a big game player, although it wasn’t all smooth and rosy in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to the Chelsea’s official website recently, Pochettino said that the goal return of Nicolas Jackson in his first season at Chelsea is similar that of the legendary Didier Drogba.
Drogba scored 10 Premier League goals in his first season with the Blues, and a total of 16 in all competitions.
Jackson, so far, has scored 9 goals in 23 league appearances, and a total of 12 in all competitions – with two in the FA Cup and one in the Carabao Cup.
For Mauricio Pochettino, Jackson’s first season is very similar to Drogba’s.
He said: “I’ve always said that I really believe in him and I really believe that he is going to be very successful here because he has the quality and the capacity.
“Now he is doing much better, but he still needs to improve a lot. The numbers are similar to Drogba’s first season and that maybe gives the fans more belief in him, to be a little bit more patient with him.”
Meanwhile, Jackson has a long way to go if he’d be mentioned in same breath as Didier Drogba.
Drogba won four Premier League titles and scored 164 goals in 381 games for Chelsea, and his role in winning the Champions League in 2012 will never be forgotten in a hurry.
