Chelsea told they are relying on this player too much

Cole Palmer has been the only player carrying Chelsea this season, and the Blues hardly look like scoring without him on the ball, according to Glen Johnson.

Johnson made the claim while reacting to Palmer getting called up to the England squad for their upcoming games against Brazil and Belgium.

Palmer is actually one of three Chelsea players that have been invited for the games by Gareth Southgate, with Conor Gallagher and Ben Chilwell also on the list.

Asked whether Palmer deserves to be starting for the Three Lions at the 2024 European Championship in Germany, Johnson replied Squawka: “Yeah, possibly, like you say, he’s been world class. And at the moment, to be honest, Chelsea only look like scoring when he’s got the ball.

“So for him to sort of drag that team along almost single-handed, that’s not easy to do. If he could do that in arguably a better team, then he definitely can do it on a bigger stage.

“So if you think about the other players right now, [Jack] Grealish is injured, a few are not firing. So yeah, I think he would definitely be the first sub or in the front three. As long as he continues this form, he’s banging right on the door.”

Palmer has scored 13 goals in 33 matches for Chelsea this season, making him the club’s highest goalscorer so far. He also has 11 assists, but the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Gallagher, and Enzo Fernandez have certainly been impressive as well.
