Journalist, Simon Phillips has shared a few details regarding the latest injury sustained by Chelsea vice-captain, Ben Chilwell.

Chilwell was confirmed injured last week, as Chelsea prepared to take on Newcastle United in the Premier League on Monday.

The actual cause of injury was not given by Mauricio Pochettino, but the Chelsea boss did say the 27-year-old needed to be assessed by doctors before that could be ascertained.

Chilwell had to be replaced by Marc Cucurella at left-back in the 3-2 win against Newcastle earlier in the week, and thankfully, the Spaniard wasn’t bad.

However, it seems the Blues will have to be without Chilly for an extended period of time again, as Philips has now suggested while speaking on the fullback’s latest injury on his Substack.

He said: “Chilwell’s injury is still being described as the ‘longest one’ and this is the one that I actually hold most doubts over and whether he will be able to return to the grass soon or not. I understand his injury was an impact injury after he got studded in the knee against Brentford.

“There has been a lot of swelling as a result, so more assessments are needed here and we need to wait to see of any lasting damage and if any further treatment is needed.”

Ben Chilwell has already missed about two months of football for Chelsea as a result of a hamstring injury from earlier in the season. And it is unfortunate that he’s out again at a time when the team needs their best players the most, but hopefully, the reports about his latest injury potentially keeping him out for a very long time aren’t true, and we can see him in action again before the end of the campaign.

Chilwell was playing well upon his return from injury, and it’s sad to see him out again.
