Cole Palmer has expressed confidence that Chelsea will continue to get better as a team – and that it’s only a matter of time before the hard work the players put in at training begins to pay off.

Chelsea returned to winning ways with a 3-2 Premier League win against Newcastle United on Monday night.

Palmer provided an assist for one of the goals, before scoring another to set up the win, with Mykhailo Mudryk later putting the game beyond salvaging for Eddie Howe’s men, thanks to his beautifully taken goal in the 76th minute.

It was a much-needed result for the Blues, who have been very inconsistent this season, despite spending so much money on player transfers last summer.

Both fans and pundits have come down hard on Chelsea’s stars for not doing enough on occasions this season, but Palmer insists the team is a young one, and will surely come good in the near future.

When asked about the criticism Chelsea have faced this season, Cole Palmer told Sky Sports: “I think there’s so much talent at Chelsea.

“The fans don’t see it, you guys don’t see it, but I think the way the manager works on the pitch, the things he does with us, it’s only going to get better.

“I’m sure, if not next season the season after, it’s a project, everyone’s young, everyone’s trying to play well, so I think you’ll see it sooner or later.”

Stadium Astro also asked the 21-year-old whether he feels Chelsea need to sign more players before they can become the team everyone expects them to be, to which he answered: “There is a lot of quality there, not just me.

“We’ve got loads of other players, so hopefully the team can gel a bit more than everyone has seen.”
