Mauricio Pochettino has finally admitted he’s eager to gain the complete love and support of Chelsea fans.
The Argentine has not had plenty joy in his debut season as Chelsea manager, after struggling to take Chelsea above mid-table.
After 26 matches, Chelsea are 11th on the Premier League table (they finished 12th last season), and just recently, lost out on the opportunity to win the Carabao Cup, after a 1-0 final defeat to Liverpool.
Fans have naturally turned on Pochettino, demanding his sack as manager of the club, but the 52-year-old is hopeful things will get better.
Speaking ahead of his side’s Premier League meeting with Newcastle on Monday, Pochettino compared his situation at Stamford Bridge to that of his opposite number, Eddie Howe.
He said: “I hope one day Chelsea fans will support me the same way Newcastle do with Howe.
“I say that because I am here, I am the coach of Chelsea and I want to win as much as our fans!”
While we do feel Pochettino’s pain, we have to say that it’s not fair for him to compare his position with that of Howe.
Unlike the Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, Pochettino has previously managed Tottenham, who are arguably Chelsea’s worst rivals in English football. It would naturally take more than what he’s done so far to win them over.
Howe, in his few years at Newcastle, has also managed to lead the Magpies to a top-four finish in the Premier League, while playing some good football. His side are also currently ahead of the Blues on the standings, despite their injury problems, so he does deserve the support he’s getting if you asked us.
