Former Fulham and Chelsea midfielder, Steve Sidwell has claimed that he doesn’t see Mauricio Pochettino lasting long in his current role as Chelsea manager.

Sidwell made the claim while speaking recently on The Peter Crouch podcast.

The pundit feels that after struggling to make any impact at Chelsea in his first nine months at the club, there’s a strong chance that Pochettino will be let go of as Chelsea manager, sooner than later.

The assessment came off the back of Chelsea’s latest result— a 2-2 draw against Brentford at the GTech stadium, which saw the away fans turn on both the manager and his players.

“I think this is the first time we have seen the fans on Poch’s back,” said Sidwell.

“When he came through the door he was always up against it because of the Spurs connection and then I felt with his history of working with youngsters and making them better, like he did at Southampton and Tottenham, this was built up for him.

“But it feels like this was a road to nowhere for him. I really do feel that. Once the fans start, the board always tend to listen.”

According to a report by The Guardian, the Chelsea board plan to allow Pochettino stay until the end of the season, but a number of candidates are already being lined up as a potential replacement just in case there is no reasonable change at the club between now and then. But we do imagine that if Chelsea can pull off a good result in their league match with Newcastle on Monday, the angry fans may get off the back of the manager for now, at least.
