Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea are indeed interested in signing Athletic Bilbao star, Nico Williams.

In fact, according to the journalist, the Blues’ interest in Williams has been there for some time now.

At just 21 years old, Williams fits into the age bracket of players Chelsea have been buying in the past two seasons, so we can’t exactly say we’re surprised by the story.

Romano also confirmed that the winger has a release clause of about €50m.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside, Romano said: “Nico Williams is on Chelsea list of players being monitored, he has €50m release clause, so Chelsea know all the conditions.”

He added: “At the moment nothing is 100% decided yet and there are also other clubs keen, but Nico is on Chelsea list since last summer.”

Williams’ addition to Chelsea would make some sense, seeing as he’s still very young, but with the Blues still struggling in mid-table for the second season running, it begs the question of whether the exciting talent would actually want to move to Stamford Bridge if clubs that secure European football enter the race for his signature by the end of the season.
