BBC pundit, Mark Chapman has claimed there is something he noticed about Mauricio Pochettino after Chelsea’s narrow Carabao Cup final loss to Liverpool more than a week ago.

The Blues lost 1-0 through a Virgil van Dijk header in extra time, to miss out on the coveted trophy.

For Chelsea, it was yet another final disappointment at Wembley after losing their previous five domestic finals at the prestigious stadium. But for Pochettino, it was another rare opportunity to win his first trophy as a manager in English football missed.

Chelsea have since put the agony of that result behind them though, beating Leeds United 3-2 to progress to the quarter finals of the FA Cup last week, and following it up with a 2-2 away draw with Brentford in the Premier League.

However, while discussing Chelsea on The Modnay Night Club, Chapman revisited the Wembley result, and claimed he couldn’t help noticing that Pochettino looked a ‘broken man’ after the game.

He said: “I wonder how much last week’s defeat will take out of him because we always look at it from a player’s point of view and this, that and the other. As I’ve talked about to other people, he looked a broken man last Sunday.”

It’s obviously a natural feeling to be disappointed or ‘broken’, as Chapman puts it, after losing an important match, especially a final. In fact, if Pochettino had shown a contrary emotion after losing the Carabao Cup final, it would have called for some concern.

It’s been a hell of a season for the Blues and their manager, who couldn’t have envisaged the amount of difficulty he has faced when he applied for the job last year, but we are still very confident that somehow, amid all of these, Chelsea and Pochettino will have something to smile about in no distant time.
