Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has made yet another controversial statement about football that some of the fans of the players involved will certainly not agree with.
The former Liverpool player and manager, during a recent appearance on talkSPORT, claimed that Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne is a better player than Chelsea legend, Gianfranco Zola.
Zola is however, not the only ex-player who was name-dropped by Souness, who also said the Belgian is equally better than former Manchester United star, Eric Cantona and the legendary Denis Bergkamp of Arsenal.
In Souness’ words: “Yeah. My immediate thought is yeah. I think he is. If you’re an Arsenal supporter you will disagree, if you are a Chelsea supporter you will disagree and if you are a Man United fan you will disagree.
“No Arsenal fan will agree with me, no Chelsea fan will agree with me and no Man United fan will. But in my opinion, yeah.”
Souness’ comments come barely a day after former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes also claimed that Manchester City’s Phil Foden is better than Frank Lampard.
We have no idea where these comparisons have been coming from, but we do know that it’s disrespectful to compare both De Bruyne and Foden to Zola and Lampard, who were immense for the Blues week-in, week-out during their playing days.
Again, these City boys are playing in arguably the best team in the world, with some incredible teammates around them. That was never case for neither Zola, who literally had to carry the club on his shoulders.
