Thomas Tuchel will likely not be returning to Chelsea as manager of the club, despite calls for him to do so by a section of the club’s fan base.
The German coach is set to leave his current role as Bayern Munich boss after reaching a mutual agreement with their hierarchy to bow out at the end of the season.
This means that Thomas Tuchel will be available for hire in the coming months, and some Chelsea fans have urged the owners of the club to swallow their pride, and bring him back to Stamford Bridge, following the excellent spell he had in London between 2020 and 2022.
Journalist, Raphael Honigstein, has however revealed that as great as it would be for Chelsea fans to see one of their favourite managers return to the club, the chances of that actually happening are very slim, judging by the way he left in the first place.
“I don’t see any chance of Chelsea bringing Tuchel back,” Honigstein told The Athletic. “[He wouldn’t be prepared to work under the existing ownership after their problems and the level of interference they tried to exert on him.
“So for me, it’s a non-starter.”
Aside from leading Chelsea to a top-four finish, Tuchel also masterminded the club’s second UEFA Champions League triumph with a 1-0 win against Manchester City at the final. He also won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup a few months later.
The current owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali surprisingly cut the Bayern boss loose as soon as they completed their takeover of the West London club, replacing him with Graham Potter, who was also fired, and replaced with Mauricio Pochettino.
However, things haven’t yet taken great shape under the Argentine more than seven months later, and talks of his sack are starting to gather momentum.
Above all Tuchel is highly needed in Chelsea
