Moises Caicedo had no business finishing Sunday’s Carabao Cup final at Wembley, and should have been shown a red card in the first half, according to Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool won their 10th League Cup at the expense of Chelsea on Sunday evening, thanks to a late Virgil van Dijk winner in extra time.
The match was however, one that had so many talking points, with one of them coming in the first half of normal time after Caicedo appeared to stamp his foot on Ryan Gravenberch.
The Dutchman was later subbed off, and Caicedo allowed to go unpunished by VAR, who reviewed the foul, and decided it wasn’t malicious from the Chelsea midfielder.
Klopp was asked about the injury to Gravenberch after the game, and the Liverpool boss couldn’t stop himself from saying a few things about the referees.
“There were two teams who were fighting extremely hard and the referee did not have the level of the game,” Jurgen Klopp told Sky Sports.
“That’s how it is, I’m sorry for that, I know now you’ll make a story of that but everybody saw that.
“It was not even a foul! He did not even whistle a foul! Then the fourth official explains to me that they cannot give a card. Oh, good idea!
“These boys, I’m not sure if it’s too much, too quick or whatever for them but this situation was for me obvious. We saw a Chelsea foot stamping on the ankle, it’s everything you need for a card.
“I hope it’s not bad, they did the X-ray so it’s not broke, but the ligaments got something and that’s how it is. It’s all bad, but everything else is really good.”
