Chelsea were narrowly defeated by Liverpool in the 2023-24 Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.

Virgil van Dijk scored a late extra time-winner for the Reds, just as the game looked destined for a penalty shootout.

It was the third final in a row that Chelsea would lose to Liverpool.

In fact, according to Squawka, the Blues have become the first English club to lose six domestic finals in a row.

The record goes all the way back to 2019, when Chelsea were defeated by Manchester City at a shootout in the Carabao Cup.

In 2020-21, Chelsea also lost in both the FA Cup and the League Cup finals to Arsenal and Leicester City, respectively.

The 2021-22 season saw Chelsea take on Liverpool in the finals of the two tournaments, but unfortunately, they lost again, on both occasions, only that it went to a penalty shootout this time, with Caoimhin Kelleher proving to be the hero for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
