Mario Melchiot has made his prediction for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool.
The Blues and the Reds will square off against each other at Wembley later today.
For Mauricio Pochettino, it’s a rare opportunity to win something as a manager in England, and for Jurgen Klopp, the perfect send-off gift, following the announcement that he’ll be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
Both sides have had contrasting fortunes this season, going into the cup tie.
While Liverpool have excelled in the Premier League, and currently top the rankings, Chelsea find themselves in 10th place after 25 matches.
However, for Melchiot, Chelsea will just be the better team in the EFL final, and he has now backed them to win it 2-1.
“Look, this is a final. On the day of a final it’s not always the team that is in the best form that wins,” the former Chelsea defender told Sky Sports.
“I have to say I think Chelsea maybe have the opportunity… Maybe that is the fan talking. I’ll go for 2-1.
“If it comes to penalties I’m a little worried so they have to get it [won] in the game.
“Liverpool is the favourite. I guarantee they have their chances. But Chelsea can squeeze a 2-1 victory.”
