Former Arsenal winger, Theo Walcott has predicted how this season’s Carabao Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool will pan out.
The Blues and Liverpool will face each other again in a Carabao Cup final for the second time in two years.
The last time both sides met, it was under Thomas Tuchel during the 2021-22 campaign, where Chelsea also got to the final of the FA Cup, only to lose both of them to Liverpool on penalties.
Walcott has now stated that he expects a similar outcome between the two teams this weekend, because in his opinion, Cup finals are usually more keenly-contested than league matches, and he knows the players will give everything to cancel each other out, and win it.
Walcott told Football Daily: “Cup finals, anything can happen. Knowing and being in these games before, they tend to go to penalties, they really do because these teams cancel each other out because they are so close in statute when it comes to cup finals.
“Premier League the form goes out the window, in a cup final, each and every player wants to win and fight to the end and that’s why you see a lot of them go to penalties.
“I probably see this going all the way to the end which isn’t ever nice, I hate seeing penalties.”
