Malo Gusto or Reece James? See what this pundit has to say

ESPN pundit, Don Hutchinson has been impressed by Chelsea’s Malo Gusto this season, especially in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City last weekend.

Gusto had an amazing outing against City, but truth be told, it wasn’t the first time he would perform well this season, and the only reason some people took better note of his excellence last Saturday was because Chelsea came up against the reigning champions.

Hutchinson was discussing the Frenchman’s performance against Man City while speaking on ESPN, and admitted that his crossing of the ball is great, and like that of Reece James, who many consider Chelsea’s first-choice right-back.

He said: “I thought Gusto had a really good game. He’s a good player when he goes forward, Reece James-like. When he gets forward he’s got good delivery. That will give him a lot of confidence when you play him against [Jeremy] Doku because normally when you play against someone like that it’s very, very tricky. What you’re taught to do is show him inside into traffic, but he actually quite fancied himself in 1v1.”

Since joining the Blues from Lyon last summer, the 20-year-old has proven to be a bargain, having come in for just £26m.

Gusto has picked up six assists this season— one of the most by a Chelsea player this term, which makes him equally productive when going forward.

Reece James has been out for months now, but his absence hasn’t been noticed much at all, just because Gusto has come in and made the right-back position his own, and Mauricio Pochettino will be scratching his head now, knowing he will have a big problem on his hands once his captain returns from injury.

Do you think Gusto has done enough to displace Reece James?
