Jamie Redknapp has hailed Levi Colwill as an exceptional player, whose ability to pass the ball is unreal.
Colwill has come to establish himself as a regular starter for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season after impressing while on loan at Brighton last term.
The 20-year-old has been made to play as a left-back for large parts of the season as a result of injuries to both Ben Chilwell and Reece James, although, with his vice-captain now back, he has featured more as a central defender in recent matches.
Colwill showed everyone just how good he could be in that position last Saturday when he was paired alongside Axel Disasi, as Chelsea held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
It was arguably the best both players have been for Chelsea this season, with Disasi winning the much-coveted ‘Man of the Match’ award after making 16 clearances.
Colwill himself came up with 10 clearances in that particular match, but for Redknapp, his pinpoint passing ability was what he admired the most about the Chelsea defender.
The pundit told Sky Sports Premier League: “To go to Manchester City, go to the Etihad you have to defend well if you’re gonna get any points whatsoever, and I picked out two of the defenders in this match Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill. Both very impressive.
“Levi Cowill seems to have found some real form at the moment. You can see with the passing accuracy, exceptional from a defender, playing it into midfield.
“But the one thing when I talk about Disasi that really sticks out is the clearances, 16. That’s the second most in the Premier League this season… And I thought he was certainly the man of the match. He was excellent, huge team performance and a massive improvement from Chelsea.”
According to the BBC, Colwill has an impressive 85% passing accuracy, which is very good for a central defender.
