Jamie Carragher was impressed with Axel Disasi, following his display for Chelsea during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad stadium.

Axel Disasi was one of the standout performers for Chelsea on the day, and was rightly named ‘Man of the Match’ after making an astonishing 16 clearances to preserve the Blues’ 1-0 lead until late in the game when Rodri equalised for City.

In his post-match reaction on Sky Sports, Carragher admitted he hadn’t seen any defender play as well as Alex Disasi did for Chelsea against City this season, and likened the contribution to something you’d expect from Chelsea legend, John Terry.

He said: “It was backs against the wall throwing yourself in front of things, every time the ball comes in you’re like a magnet.

“Talking about Chelsea, that was a John Terry performance and I can’t give any higher praise than that.

“I can’t remember a better defensive performance this season, certainly from a central defender.

“You’re coming away to Manchester City, playing against the best striker in the world, he was brilliant.

“He was Man of the Match, definitely the best player on the pitch. He was just throwing himself in front of everything.”
