Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has explained the reasoning behind his defensive changes in the second-half during the 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
With Chelsea winning 1-0, Pochettino switched to a five at the back against Manchester City, taking off Cole Palmer and bring on Trevoh Chalobah.
In the 82nd minute, Pochettino then took off Nicolas Jackson and brought on midfielder Cesare Casadei. Manchester City equalised through Rodri a minute later.
On making defensive changes in the second half against Manchester City, Pochettino told Sky Sports: “It was in a moment when we needed to try and score the second.
“I think we decide to not give too much space to them and bring another centre-back on.
“Playing with a back four they find a good channel and we wanted to try and stop this run. It was difficult because we were not able to score the second goal and they got the goal and the draw.”
Meanwhile, Manchester City legend Micah Richards has reacted to 1-1 draw against Chelsea
We are the blues ???? we had a good game.
At least I was impressed with our Chelsea football club performance. I hope and pray we maintain that spirit but again please avoid changing changing players. Time for experiment ended long time ago.
At least Chelsea put up a good fight to a point. However, we could have carried the day if not the lack of composure and a bit clinical on the part of Jackson and Sterling. That notwithstanding, there were some highlights worth celebrating from the game. Thus, Disasi and Gusto’s performances and the collective team work on the day was super. Indeed, everything gonna be alright, Chelsea!
this was I think, the best of Chelsea I had seen for done time.drspute the statistics, the match was definitely ours, but as usual, ” we never capitualise on ‘easy’matchrs we are to win comfortably; that really makes me doubt MP’s abilities…….
We could have carried the day , I think the substutes in the dying minutes did not help.Over and above very good performance for Chelsea hope they will replicate the performance against Liverpool.
One of the best games I have seen from Chelsea since I started following the club nearly 20 years ago.
Mauricio Pochettino and our young lads we believe in you all and the project. One day we are going to take the world by surprise.
