Former Middlesbrough midfielder, Robbie Mustoe has backed Ivan Toney to join Chelsea this summer.

Toney is expected to leave Brentford at the end of the season, after making it clear he is open to leaving the club for the right offer.

Brentford manager, Thomas Frank also recently admitted that it is very likely that the 27-year-old would be sold come this summer.

Toney has been linked with potential moves to Chelsea and Arsenal, but with the Blues in dire need of a proven finisher, Mustoe has now stated that he thinks the West Londoners would be the best destination for the English forward.

“I think Chelsea is the fit,” Mustoe said on the 2 Robbies podcast. “I think Chelsea is the fit for him. Remember, if it’s going to be this summer, he’s in the last year of his contract, so with one year left, £60m.

“He is a Chelsea-type player for me. And we’ve seen Diego Costa, we’ve seen Drogba, we’ve seen aggressive, maverick centre-forwards.”

According to HITC, Brentford may actually have to sell Toney for less than the £100m that was initially rumoured since he will have entered the final year of his contract with the Bees by the time the summer transfer window opens.

The outlet claims that Toney may be available for anything between £50m and £60m.
