Enzo Fernandez has admitted he wasn’t comfortable with how Chelsea fared during the first half of their 3-1 win against Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Blues picked up the three points at Selhurst Park thanks to a superb second-half performance, having initially lost the first-half 1-0.

Palace made the first period extremely difficult for Chelsea, as they defended deep, and didn’t allow the Blues any space to move the ball around in their half. This ensured that Chelsea struggled to break them down, and went into the break without a single shot on target, despite being 1-0 down.

The second half was however much better for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, who moved the ball quicker, and found an early equaliser through Conor Gallagher. The midfielder then added a second in the 90th minute before Enzo made it 3-1 late in stoppage time.

Speaking to the official club website after the game, Enzo said he was happy with the eventual result, but made it clear he wasn’t comfortable with how the team struggled in the first half.

He said: “In the first half, I did not feel completely comfortable. They were very compact and had a line of five defenders and four midfielders. It was very difficult for us.

“In the second half, I think we corrected some of our mistakes and we were able to find those spaces that we were missing in the first half. Luckily the victory then arrived, so I was very happy.”

Enzo Fernandez did well against Crystal Palace, and seems to have turned a corner.

Chelsea have an important match coming up against Manchester City this Saturday. It will be interesting to see if the players can play with the same energy and zest they used to beat Palace in the second half on Monday.
