Cole Palmer has hailed Mauricio Pochettino for helping him become a better player, following his £42m transfer to Chelsea last summer.

Palmer has been involved in 16 Premier League goals since he joined Chelsea from Manchester City, including 10 goals and six assists.

It’s an impressive return for the 21-year-old, who struggled for regular first-team football during his time at the Etihad stadium, and hadn’t even registered a single league goal before the move.

Palmer’s latest assists came as Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 3-1 on Monday night, and the versatile attacker has now credited Pochettino with his remarkable form for the Blues.

“The manager helps us all every day,” the English star told Standard Sport.

“It’s just little conversations telling us what to do.

“He supports us massively, and credit goes to the manager for keeping us together. He has been amazing [with me] from the first day.

“When I first came in, he just put his arm around me and gave me the freedom and confidence to go out there and play — so, yes, I’m enjoying it.”

On Chelsea’s recent form, Palmer added: “We do have meetings and he [Pochettino] believes in us.

“We believe in ourselves, but everyone will talk if you’re not doing well. We just need to try and block it out and focus on ourselves.

“There’s always a lot of talk, you know what football fans are like, and rightly so. Chelsea is a big club, and we’ve seen them win many things for a long time. If we don’t get results, they will be onto us. But I think you’ve seen in the last two games that we are trying to stick together in our development and to keep going as a team.”
