Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Ian Maatsen is done with Chelsea, following his impressive form since he moved to Germany.
Maatsen joined Borussia Dortmund on a six-month loan deal last month after finding game time difficult to earn at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old was however made to sign a contract extension, which includes a £35m release clause. And according to Romano, it will now take a lot to stop the player from leaving Chelsea at the end of the season if clubs come trying to sign him.
Romano also claims that the only condition under which this may not happen is if another manager takes over from Mauricio Pochettino before then, which is unlikely for now.
“The feeling is the situation between Chelsea and Ian Maatsen is over, especially with Pochettino as the manager,” the transfer expert said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Maatsen was recently named the Bundesliga ‘Rookie of the Month’ for January, and Dortmund may want to retain him at the end of June, but his release clause might prove a problem for them.
