Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he doesn’t want to be carried away with Chelsea’s impressive win against Aston Villa in the FA Cup last Wednesday, because he’s aware that things could still change quickly.
The Argentine saw his players put talks of a crisis in his squad to rest with an emphatic 3-1 win over Unai Emery’s men at Villa Park, to progress to the FA Cup fifth round.
The game has been described by many as Chelsea’s best performance under Pochettino, and the coach has now revealed that he is hoping the players can carry the confidence from the win into their remaining matches of the campaign.
“We had some good performances, but after them we were not consistent enough,” said the 51-year-old, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“Maybe this could be the starting point for us, to show this type of performance more often. We always believe the momentum is shifting and it’s the time to be consistent. We hope that it’s going to be a very good thing for us.
“The players deserve it because they’ve been working very hard since the beginning of the season. We need to put it all together, behave in the way we behaved at Villa. There are so many things we need to continue doing now for the future.
“The difference was with the amount of noise that was beginning before the Villa game, but the performance was really good. We realised that we had to compete in a different way.”
