Manchester United legend Roy Keane has praised Chelsea for the performance in the 3-1 FA Cup victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
“Obviously it was a brilliant night for Chelsea. They were strong, they were aggressive, showed quality. Everything you want from a team away from home,” Keane told ITV Sport shortly after the final whistle.
“There were three excellent goals and there are question marks now about Villa.
“There’s no need to panic but they’ve got another tough game at the weekend and they never turned up tonight.
“Chelsea grew in confidence with the game and obviously when you score goals it gives them that.
“But it’s amazing… this game drives you mad. We were praising Villa, we were saying crisis at Chelsea and then they turn up and play like that.”
Facing intense scrutiny following consecutive losses, Chelsea, under Mauricio Pochettino’s guidance, impressively overcame their critics with a 3-1 victory at Villa Park against Aston Villa in Wednesday’s FA Cup fourth round replay. This win set up an exciting home match against Championship team Leeds United.
Early goals from Conor Gallagher and Nicolas Jackson gave Chelsea a solid lead within the first 21 minutes. Shortly after the break, Enzo Fernandez extended Chelsea’s lead with a remarkable 25-yard free-kick.
Despite a stoppage-time goal from Moussa Diaby that offered a glimmer of hope for Unai Emery’s squad, it merely served as a consolation, leaving Chelsea triumphant.
