Report: Behdad Eghbali already eyeing 42-year-old manager as Pochettino’s replacement

Chelsea co-owner, Behdad Eghbali has reportedly made up his mind on whom he wants as manager of the Blues should Mauricio Pochettino get sacked soon.

Chelsea’s season took a turn for the worse in the last week, after they lost back to back Premier League games, and conceded a whopping eight goals in the process.

The 4-2 loss against Wolves on Sunday was the breaking point for many supporters, who ensured that their feelings were made clear in the stadium, as they booed the players, and sang for former club owner, Roman Abramovich.

Pochettino was hired to steady the Chelsea ship last summer, but with just 22 games gone this season, the Argentine has made very little progress, as his side currently occupy 11th place on the league table. This of course, is just one spot better than the 12th position they finished in at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

The defeat against Wolves has led to intensified calls for Pochettino to be sacked just seven months into his reign, with SportsZone now reporting that Bayer Leverkusen boss, Xabi Alonso may be hired as Chelsea’s new manager if that happens.

According to the report, Eghbali is a fan of the former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder, after watching him take Leverkusen to the top of the German Bundesliga table.

Whether the report is true or not, however, remains to be seen, but we doubt it would be easy to convince the 42-year-old to move to a club like Chelsea, where he’ll be under enormous pressure to deliver, especially with Liverpool now most-likely to make him their next head coach after Jurgen Klopp’s recent announcement that he’ll be leaving Anfield at the end of the 2023-24 season.

  1. This is good news. Pochettino lack tactical acumen to succeeding in premier league.. He has zero passion, empty of ideas when things are going wrong on the pitch.. he should probably go in a hurry..
